Overstable Discraft midrange in Z Line plastic. The disc for windy days and mid-range hyzer shots.

The Wasp is Discraft's most popular overstable midrange — and the disc that inspired the creation of the Buzzz. According to the manufacturer, it has “superbly consistent flight characteristics for shots between 75 and 105 metres — you'll want it for windy days and hyzer finishes”. With speed 5, glide 3, turn 0 and fade 2, and a stability rating of 1.5, it flies flat and straight at high speed before finishing with a pronounced, utterly reliable fade. Its large bead is the mold's most recognisable feature — clearly setting it apart from the Buzzz and adding more perceived overstability.

It takes full power without turning over, stands up to headwinds and can be thrown at low speed for technical flex lines that finish with a consistent fade. In Z Line the Wasp flies more overstable than in ESP or the base plastics — Z is the reference plastic Discraft bases its official flight numbers on, which makes the Z Wasp's flight the truest to the printed numbers.

Z Line

Discraft's most durable plastic, formerly known as Elite-Z. Translucent look with vivid colours and highly wear-resistant. It comes out of the factory a bit firmer and less grippy than ESP, but gains grip progressively with use. Its biggest advantage over other plastics is that it keeps its original flight characteristics for much longer — ideal if you want your disc to fly the same round after round.

Discraft ESP Malta McBeth
— also an overstable midrange (5/4/1/3). The Malta has more fade and positive turn — even more overstable. The Wasp Z is a bit more neutral with more glide before the finish — more versatile across different distances.

Kastaplast Nord K1— also an overstable midrange (5/4/0/3). The Nord has more glide and more fade. The Wasp Z has less glide and stability 1.5 — a bit more moderate, ideal for shots where the Nord would finish too early.

Axiom Neutron Hex— the neutral counterpart at the same speed (5/5/-1/1). The Hex has more glide and is understable. The Wasp Z is the opposite — more overstable with less glide. The choice depends on whether you need the disc to turn or to finish.
