Understable Discraft driver in Z Line plastic that holds almost dead-straight lines. For slower arms, turnovers and shaped shots.

2017 Ace Race disc

The Sting was born as Discraft's 2017 Ace Race disc — and the community immediately adopted it as one of its favourite understable drivers. With speed 7, glide 5, turn -2 and fade 1, and a stability rating of 0.0, it's the disc the manufacturer describes as “designed to hold a near-perfect line on every throw and create huge hyzer flips”. Its Stability 0.0 is one of the lowest numbers in the Discraft range — practically neutral, or slightly understable at high speed.

The community warns that the Sting flies noticeably more understable than its printed numbers suggest — many players rate it closer to a real turn of -4 in practice. Ideal for beginners who want real distance without a powerful arm, for intermediate players who use it for long hyzer flips, and for advanced players who use it as a tool for turnover shots, rollers and long-range anhyzers. It fits comfortably in most hands thanks to its modest rim size. As the community puts it: “it's crazy how far it goes”.

Z Line

Discraft's most durable plastic, formerly known as Elite-Z. Translucent look with vivid colours and highly wear-resistant. It comes out of the factory a bit firmer and less grippy than ESP, but gains grip progressively with use. Its biggest advantage over other plastics is that it keeps its original flight characteristics for much longer — ideal if you want your disc to fly the same round after round.

Discraft Z Line Mantis— also an understable Ace Race fairway driver (8/4/-2/2). The Mantis is a little faster with more fade. The Sting Z is less stable (Stability 0.0 vs ~0.8) and flies more understable in practice — less finish at the end.

Kastaplast K1 Stig
— also an understable, controllable fairway driver (6/5/-2/1). The Stig is a little slower. The Sting Z is a little faster and flies more understable in practice — more turn and more curving distance.

Westside Tournament Underworld Zen— also a very understable fairway driver (7/6/-3/1). The Underworld has more official turn and more glide. In practice the Sting Z flies at similar levels of understability — for players choosing between the two brands.
