Discraft fairway driver in Z Line plastic, close to neutral and easy to control. For straight drives and gentle turnovers.

2013 Ace Race disc

The Mantis was born as Discraft's 2013 Ace Race disc in Titanium plastic — and the community quickly adopted it as one of its favourite fairway drivers. With speed 8, glide 4, turn -2 and fade 2, and a stability rating of 0.8, it's a near-neutral disc with a gentle early turn before a moderate fade. The Mantis is what the manufacturer calls “a utility driver for experienced players and a distance driver for new players”. The community sums it up perfectly: “If you've ever thought 'I wish the Comet was a driver', buy a Mantis”.

Perfect for hyzer flips in the woods, precise tunnel shots, controlled turnovers and any situation where you need the disc to fly straight and be shaped in any direction. More recent runs have a slightly more domed profile that adds extra glide. In Z Line it flies a little firmer than in ESP or Titanium — the most consistent version and the truest to its numbers, for anyone who wants a Mantis that doesn't change too quickly with use.

Z Line

Discraft's most durable plastic, formerly known as Elite-Z. Translucent look with vivid colours and highly wear-resistant. It comes out of the factory a bit firmer and less grippy than ESP, but gains grip progressively with use. Its biggest advantage over other plastics is that it keeps its original flight characteristics for much longer — ideal if you want your disc to fly the same round after round.

Discraft Z Line Stalker— also a neutral Discraft fairway driver (7/5/-1/2). The Stalker is a little slower with less turn. The Mantis Z has more turn (-2 vs -1) and is more workable — more turn and more versatility for shaped shots.

Discmania Neo Essence X-out— also a versatile understable fairway driver (8/6/-2/1). The Essence has more glide and less fade. The Mantis Z has less glide but more fade — more reliable in the wind with a more predictable finish.

Kastaplast K1 Grind Falk— also an understable fairway driver (9/6/-2/1). The Falk is a little faster with more glide. The Mantis Z is slower with more fade — easier to control for players who can't yet throw speed 9 cleanly.
