Obsidian Discs' most overstable putter, in soft, very grippy G7 plastic. For approaches into the wind and shots that need to finish hard.

The Splinter was Obsidian Discs' first disc — approved by the PDGA in 2014, the same year the brand was founded. G7 is the softest, grippiest version of the Splinter — the choice for players who value a soft feel and wet grip over the durability of H9.

The Splinter is Obsidian Discs' first disc and the most overstable putter in their range. With speed 3, glide 2, turn 0 and fade 3.5, it won't flip under any circumstances and finishes with an authority very few putters on the market can match. In the manufacturer's words: “very overstable, it won't flip even when thrown at full power, with a predictable, reliable fade. If you're a beginner and want to start with just one disc, choose the Splinter.” The glide 2 is deliberately low — the disc drops quickly, lands where you throw it and doesn't skip far from the target.

In G7 the Splinter has a softer, gummier feel than in H9 — “similar to Innova's R-Pro but with better grip”, according to the community. The big advantage of G7 is its exceptional grip in wet and cold conditions, holding on even with a wet hand. As one advanced player puts it: “for me, perfect for backhand upshots under 30 metres — no way it flips, and G7 stays in the hand for exactly the right amount of time”. The G7 flat top version is slightly less overstable than the H9 puddle top — which for many players is exactly the right level.

G7

A soft, very grippy midgrade plastic from Obsidian Discs. According to the manufacturer, it holds its grip exceptionally well even in wet conditions — ideal for putting, where grip is critical. It's slightly stiffer than G5, giving it a bit more consistency on the throw while keeping a nice feel when it hits the chains. A good middle ground between the maximum softness of G5 and the firmness of H9.

Obsidian Discs Splinter H9
— same mold. H9 is harder, more durable and a bit more overstable in the puddle top. G7 is softer, grippier and slightly less extreme in the flat top — the choice comes down to feel vs durability.

Kastaplast K3 Hard Järn
— also a very overstable approach disc in firm plastic (4.5/3/0/3). The Järn is a little faster with more glide. The Splinter G7 is softer with more fade — for players who want the soft feel of G7 with a harder finish.

Dynamic Discs Judge Classic Blend— a very popular soft neutral putter (2/4/0/1). The Judge Classic Blend has much more glide and much less fade. The Splinter G7 is for completely different situations — when the Judge would stay too straight.
